JOB SUMMARY:

The primary objective of the Metal Welder is to accurately and efficiently weld metal components according to specifications. This is a low-volume, high-precision welding position that requires excellent attention to detail and a great appreciation for quality.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Perform welding operations using various techniques, including MIG and TIG welding, to join and fabricate metal components, boxes, cabinets, and frames according to blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, and shaping them to ensure proper fit and optimal welding conditions
  • Inspect welded components for quality assurance, ensuring they meet internal company and external customer quality expectations, and make necessary adjustments or repairs as needed
  • Use job knowledge to continuously improve the quality and cost of welded products
  • Work closely with the fabrication team, including project managers, engineers, and other welders, to ensure efficient workflow, meet project deadlines, and resolve any welding-related issues or challenges
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities, including material usage, production rates, and any issues or defects encountered during the welding process
  • Perform secondary machining operations as required
  • Perform simple maintenance on tools and equipment as required
  • Develop and approve relevant work instructions as required
  • Exhibit leadership characteristics in the areas of attendance, positive and active team participation, cost reduction, and quality improvement
  • Cross-train as required
  • Work overtime when required to support customer demand
  • Clean and maintain work areas
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in metal welding in a fabrication or manufacturing environment and demonstrated proficiency in MIG and TIG welding techniques, specifically experience in welding tight tolerance parts made of stainless steel
  • Strong understanding of various metals, their properties, and appropriate welding techniques for each type of metal
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot welding issues, such as weld defects, equipment malfunctions, or material inconsistencies, and implement corrective measures
  • Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to accurately assemble and weld metal components
  • Adherence to all Company policies
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and guidelines while performing welding operations, including wearing protective gear, handling materials and equipment safely, and maintaining a clean and organized work area
  • Above – average mechanical aptitude
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate alignment, precise measurements, and adherence to quality standards
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal instruction and supervision and effectively plan, organize,  and execute own activities
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet project deadlines in a fast-paced fabrication environment
  • Ability to take direction, work well with others and be an active team member
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both written and verbal
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets
  • Ability to read engineering documents and drawings without assistance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a certified welding course
  • 10+ years of experience in metal welding in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
